Saicom Corporation has designed a series of stones specifically for the high-hardness, high-carbide, highly abrasion resistant tool steels of the modern day. Each stone is manufactured with a high concentration of quality abrasive in a logical progression order of grits in order to achieve an event, consistent finish in as little time as possible.
The 6000 grit Power Select II is a resin-bound alumina stone. The stone may be used as a splash-and-go stone but does benefit from a short soak and may be permanently soaked which will change the feeling during use; the bond will weaken a bit and it will release fresh abrasive more readily. It operates like a more aggressive, faster Arashiyama 6000 and does a good job of polishing out scratches as from lower grit stones. Like other resin-bound stones, we find it beneficial to sharpen with slurry on top of the stone which helps with loading when sharpening some harder wide-bevel knives.
